On July 1st LawDeb Trustee Director Robert Thomas will take office following his appointment to The Association of Professional Pension Trustees (APPT) Council. He replaces Andrew Parker, another LawDeb Trustee Director, who has served on the Council for two terms.

The Council's role is to represent its members as the voice of professional trustees. It frequently reviews and responds to TPR and DWP consultation documents on behalf of the APPT. The APPT itself seeks to provide corporate entities and trustee boards with guidance and support when considering the appointment of a professional trustee and to provide professional trustees with access to insight and support from their peers, as well as setting common standards for its members.

A key APPT initiative, and one where both Robert and Andrew will work together, is the Professional Trustee Standards Working Group (PTSWG). The PTSWG works to propose a set of requirements for professional trustees that will drive quality amongst the profession.

The announcement of Robert's appointment and further information around the APPT can be found here

LawDeb's own response to the consultation paper regarding professional trustee standards can be read here
