The BEA Foundation Holds BEA Carnival to Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the HKSAR

Hong Kong, 30th August, 2017 - The Bank of East Asia, Limited ("BEA") announces that its charitable arm, The Bank of East Asia Charitable Foundation ("BEA Foundation"), celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region ("HKSAR") by holding the BEA Carnival for under- resourced families and people with special needs on 26th August in Shek Mun, Shatin.

Dr. David K.P. Li, Chairman & Chief Executive of BEA and Chairman of the BEA Foundation, was joined by Guest of Honour, Mr. Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Government of the HKSAR, at the Carnival's Opening Ceremony, together with Directors of both BEA and the BEA Foundation.

Mr. Matthew Cheung said at the ceremony that the carnival, organised by the BEA Foundation with support from 10 NGOs, marked the successful multi-party collaboration between the business sector and NGOs to bring joy and positive energy to the community. BEA has demonstrated a notable commitment to society and set a good example of embracing corporate social responsibilities, he added.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Adrian Li, Executive Director & Deputy Chief Executive of BEA and Director of the BEA Foundation said, "We are honoured to have the Chief Secretary for Administration join us, as we celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the HKSAR with members of our community," he said. "To help children better understand life in Hong Kong and on the Mainland, a number of games have been specially designed to incorporate Chinese cultural elements."

The event also received the support from members of BEA's Board of Directors, including Professor Arthur Li Kwok-cheung, Dr. Allan Wong Chi-yun, Mr. Winston Lo Yau-lai, Dr. Daryl Ng Win-kong and The Hon. Chan Kin-por. Corporate sponsors Sino Group and Vitasoy International Holdings Limited kindly provided refreshments for the Carnival-goers, while VTech Holdings Limited generously donated educational toys as game prizes for the children.

Approximately 1,000 people attended the Carnival, including children and parents of under-resourced families, as well as representatives of a number of non-governmental organisations ("NGOs"). Attendees enjoyed a wide range of activities, including game booths designed by BEA volunteers, bouncy castles, face sketching and painting, and a number of performances including a magic show and wing chun performances, as well as a variety of snacks and beverages.

Throughout its history spanning nearly 100 years, BEA has supported a wide range of charitable programmes and events in the communities it serves. In 2009, the Bank established the BEA Foundation in support of education, and to help alleviate the burdens of underprivileged members of society.
