This was announced in a note from the electricity transmission grid operator, recalling that the infrastructure is included in the company's 10-year development plan for the Italian transmission grid.

In detail, the work on the approximately 7.5-kilometer-long submarine power cable laying that will unite the power stations of Bolano, in the province of Reggio Calabria, and Annunziata, in the province of Messina, will increase up to a total of 2,000 MW of power exchange capacity between the island and the mainland, benefiting the development of renewable sources.

The power line will also feature a fiber optic link for data transmission.
