The operation of upgraded and expanded public CCTV system was launched in Mažeikiai. The next-generation CCTV cameras will help police officers ensure security in public spaces. The cameras have been installed and their regular maintenance will be ensured by TEO LT, AB, the largest provider of integrated telecommunication, IT and television services in Lithuania.

The CCTV system in Mažeikiai has been modernized under the 3-year contract signed between the Mažeikiai District Municipality Administration and TEO on the procurement of a system and the provision of its maintenance services. TEO installed 13 high-quality video transmitting CCTV cameras together with its partner company Telekonta. The total value of the contract is over LTL 280 thousand.

"From now on, the city's residents and visitors should feel safer - modern CCTV cameras have been installed not only on the streets and at intersections with so far the largest number of traffic accidents, but also in popular gathering places. We are delighted that the newly installed cameras have much higher resolution and can transmit high-quality video. They are capable of capturing not only the number plates of vehicles, but also the faces of drivers or passers-by. The CCTV cameras have been installed also to monitor vehicles entering the city. This will benefit the development of a safer city", - Antanas Tenys, Mayor of Mažeikiai District Municipality, said.

The CCTV system in Mažeikiai will ensure high-quality video recording and storage for fourteen days. In the event of a crime, it will be possible to review the archive of video recordings, the capacity of which is even 8 terabytes (TB), and thus identify offenders. All CCTV cameras are controlled from the central control desk, which has been set up at the Mažeikiai Police Commissariat.

"A modern CCTV system is a perfect tool to ensure security in public spaces. The CCTV cameras will operate 24 hours a day; they will turn round on their axes and record views around them; it will be possible to zoom the view in more than 30 times. It is also important that the CCTV control desk equipment is protected from power supply failures. Even in the event of a power supply failure at the Police Commissariat, the operation of the public CCTV system will for some time continue uninterrupted and will transmit images to the CCTV control desk", - Arvydas Murza, Director of Šiauliai Regional Center of TEO, says.

TEO has implemented a total of over 100 CCTV projects. The CCTV cameras installed by TEO in more than twenty cities and towns of Lithuania help police officers protect the peace of residents. TEO has installed the most extensive CCTV systems in Visaginas (75 CCTV cameras), Kaunas (52 CCTV cameras) and Druskininkai (34 CCTV cameras).

Last year, TEO offered an integrated CCTV service to businesses and organizations. It is useful in order to the surroundings, warehousing and office premises, to capture and analyse visitor flows in shops, to ensure security in educational institutions, polyclinics, and home communities. By providing this service, TEO also performs 24-hour remote monitoring to ensure that the CCTV system is operating properly.
