STOCKHOLM--Telia Co. AB said Friday that it swung to a fourth-quarter net loss after booking a capital loss from a disposal and an impairment.

The Swedish telecommunications operator made a net loss of 24.49 billion Swedish kronor ($2.93 billion) compared with a profit of SEK1.31 billion for the same period a year earlier. Analysts polled by FactSet had seen a net loss of SEK17.74 billion.

Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization--the company's preferred metric, which strips out exceptional and other one-off items--was down 5.5% at SEK7.48 billion. Analysts expected adjusted Ebitda of SEK7.4 billion, according to FactSet.

Net sales for the quarter rose 2.7% to SEK23.46 billion.

Telia booked a SEK17.96 billion capital loss from the disposal of Turkcell Holding, mainly related to reclassified accumulated foreign exchange losses which don't have an effect on total equity, and a SEK7.8 billion impairment related to goodwill in Finland.

The company said the pandemic had an estimated SEK400 million hit on service revenue, driven by lower roaming and advertising revenue, and an estimated SEK200 million impact on adjusted Ebitda.

For 2021, Telia expects service revenues and adjusted Ebitda to be flat or grow by low single digits. Cash capital expenditure is seen between SEK14.5 billion and SEK15.5 billion.

Service revenues and adjusted Ebitda are seen growing by low single digits between 2021 and 2023.

The company proposed a dividend of SEK2 a share, as previously guided.
