Technip Energies and SBM Offshore of the Netherlands announced on Friday the creation of Ekwil, an equally-owned joint venture entirely dedicated to the emerging offshore floating wind market.

Ekwil will offer a diversified range of industrial solutions to meet the growing needs of customers in the energy sector, bringing together the unrivalled expertise and experience of both groups.

The partners explain that they intend to combine Technip Energies' INO three-column semi-submersible float with SBM's new-generation Float4Wind float, which is more efficient in terms of materials.

With this joint offering, they believe they are in a position to cover a broad spectrum of the market and promote large-scale commercialization of their products.

Quoted in the press release, Oivind Tangen, Managing Director of SBM Offshore, considers that 'it is only a matter of time before the potential of the floating offshore wind market is realized'.

Owned 50/50, Ekwil will be based in France and will employ 40 specialists led by Séverine Baudic, the former Director of New Energies at SBM Offshore, who has 25 years' experience in the offshore industry.
