(In headline and lead it was specified that people aged 18 and over in Germany were surveyed)

BERLIN (dpa-AFX) - Since the legalization of cannabis, seven percent of the adult population in Germany have already bought cannabis seeds for private home cultivation. This is the result of a representative survey conducted by the opinion research institute YouGov. 89 percent of those surveyed have not yet done so. However, eleven percent of them still plan to do so. According to the survey, younger respondents between the ages of 18 and 34 are the most likely to have already bought cannabis seeds for private cultivation (14 percent).

On April 1, possession and consumption of cannabis became legal for adults in Germany. Anyone aged 18 and over may keep up to 50 grams at home and carry a maximum of 25 grams outside. This is explicitly for personal use. Distribution and sale remain prohibited. In addition, three plants may be grown at home - not in the allotment garden. Seeds, plants and harvested cannabis must be protected against theft and access by children, for example with lockable cupboards and rooms./cab/DP/mis
