KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) _ Stryker Corp. (SYK) on Tuesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $725 million.

On a per-share basis, the Kalamazoo, Michigan-based company said it had profit of $1.90. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were $2.49 per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 13 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.46 per share.

The medical device maker posted revenue of $4.13 billion in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Eleven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $4.1 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $2.08 billion, or $5.48 per share. Revenue was reported as $14.88 billion.

For the current quarter ending in April, Stryker expects its per-share earnings to range from $2.05 to $2.10. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had forecast adjusted earnings per share of $2.05.

The company expects full-year earnings in the range of $9 to $9.20 per share.

Stryker shares have risen 2% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has increased slightly more than 1%. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $214.23, a climb of 32% in the last 12 months.
