LANCASTER, Calif. (AP) _ Simulations Plus Inc. (SLP) on Monday reported fiscal first-quarter earnings of $2.5 million.

On a per-share basis, the Lancaster, California-based company said it had profit of 12 cents.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 11 cents per share.

The maker of software used in pharmaceutical research posted revenue of $10.7 million in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $10.6 million.

Simulations Plus shares have climbed 11% since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Monday, shares hit $79.63, more than doubling in the last 12 months.
