The energy technology group Siemens Energy has landed an order worth billions in Saudi Arabia.

The company announced on Monday that it had agreed with the China Energy International Group to supply gas turbines for two power plants. Including a 25-year maintenance contract, the order is worth around 1.5 billion US dollars (approx. 1.4 billion euros). The planned Taliba 2 and Qassim 2 power plants are among the world's largest and most efficient gas and steam turbine power plants. They are intended to replace parts of an outdated power plant fleet that still relies on heavy fuel oil as an energy source. Following a run-up phase, the plants are scheduled to go into operation permanently in 2027 as combined gas and steam power plants.
