Passengers logging onto WiFi at Hongqiao International Airport with real-name authentication can skip the previous message-based authentication system as of July 21.

With non-sensing authentication technology, passengers using the same phone and number as they did the previous time they logged on won't be required to put in their information the next time they use Hongqiao's free WiFi.

Free WiFi now covers all waiting areas in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Since 2012, both the passengers and staff at Hongqiao International Airport have been required to log onto the free WiFi after a real-name authentication process. Internet passwords were procured either by SMS or an ID card-scanning machine in the airport.

The launch of this non-sensing authentication system is a new attempt by Hongqiao International Airport to improve the passenger experience. Recently, the airport upgraded network devices, increased its WiFi coverage and eliminated over 3,000 no-signal areas. The Internet can now handle about 5,000 passengers surfing simultaneously. In the future, technical staff will perfect the non-sensing authentication system to provide more convenient, comfortable and high-speed WiFi for passengers.
