Tokyo, January 29, 2018 - Rakuten, Inc. today announced a new service developed in collaboration with Japan Post Co., Ltd. that will allow shoppers on the Rakuten Ichiba online shopping mall to pick up their purchases at approximately 20,000 post offices in Japan.

The post office pickup service, which launches today, is an initiative developed by Rakuten and Japan Post with the goal of reducing the number of redeliveries in e-commerce logistics. Shoppers purchasing products from participating merchants on Rakuten Ichiba will be able to specify a post office where they would like to pick up their goods. After the goods arrive, the shoppers will be emailed an authentication number from Rakuten Ichiba with which they will be able to confirm their identity at the post office and receive their goods.

This is the latest in a series of initiatives Rakuten has developed to maximize delivery options for online shoppers. Rakuten users can already elect to have their goods delivered to HAKO POST lockers situated within selected post offices. They can also make use of Rakuten Box delivery lockers, which have been installed at locations around Japan, or elect to pick up their goods at selected convenience stores. The new service dramatically increases the number of pickup points available to shoppers, further increasing the convenience of Rakuten Ichiba.

Rakuten and Japan Post are striving to develop a more convenient and robust e-commerce industry while working to reduce redeliveries and improve the efficiency of e-commerce logistics.
