Jakarta, September 20th, 2022 - PT Kalbe Farma Tbk or Kalbe is committed to suppot Sustainable Deveopment Goals or SDGs by providing access to clean water, which is conducted in Watuagung Village, Wonogiri, Central Java. It is considered as a role by Kalbe to improve the quality of life for the Indonesian people.
"Kalbe remains committed to support the Sustainable Deveopment Goals or SDGs, one of which is to provide access to clean water in order to improve the quality of life for the society," as stated by the Assistant Manager of Sustainability of Kalbe Farma, S.F.D. Arie Wibowo, during an Instagram Live @ptkalbefarmatbk.
Arie explained that the program for access to clean water started from previous Kalbe activities, such as free medication and health education programs, in three locations across Wonogiri. From one community in that area, he obtained the information about the need for access to clean water, which would later be developed into an initiative to create access to clean water.
"We have monitored the geographical condition of the area that usually gained water through rainwater catchments and provided a solution by drilling the ground to the 35-meter depth until a river flow is found," said Matheus Dwi Pramono, a resident of Wonogiri.
He then added, "Not all locations have running water due to far locations from inhabitants' houses and the capacity of water sources that couldn't fulfill their needs. Since most inhabitants consume catchment water from the well, they will have plenty of water during rainy seasons while the water during drought seasons will only be sufficient for one family."
Matheus Dwi Pramono, or Theoas he is usually called, also formed the Tirta Asri WonogiriAssociation in order to assist the surrounding inhabitants in managing the operational of access to clean water, as well as to participate by paying Rp 1.500per cubic meter as the water flow fee.
The fee will be used to finance the repairs and care for waterways, machines, trainings for local inhabitants, and other requirements. They also plant gayam and banyan trees in hilltops to increase the water flow.
"It started with only five houses, now there are 80 houses flowing with clean water. We hope that there will be more houses to receive such clean water," as Theo explained.
Arie then stated that he and his team would still evaluate and measure the success of the program through the impact of the clean water access. Kalbe would also plan to build the same waterways in Boto Village, Wonogiri, that has been lacking of clean water for decades.
