Peab has been commissioned to build a new fire and rescue station in the borough of Mellunkyla in Helsinki. The customer is Helsinki City and the contract is worth EUR 10 million. The project comprises construction of a three story fire and rescue station.

The station will house fire and ambulance personnel along with fire engines and rescue vehicles. The ground floor of the building will have space for equipment, washrooms, first responders on duty and information to the public. The second floor will contain the residential area with kitchens and dining rooms as well as lounges and a gym for personnel.

A large gym hall will be built on the third floor, which can also be rented out for external use. A solar panel system will be installed on the roof of the building that will cover more than 20% of the total electricity need.
