HAMBURG (dpa-AFX) - Wind turbine manufacturer Nordex is seeing sustained high demand in the United States and Canada and therefore intends to resume production in the USA. "At the West Branch site in the US state of Iowa, the company will produce nacelles for the current N163 turbine variant as well as for a product specially tailored to the US market," the MDax-listed company announced in Hamburg on Thursday. The recruitment and training processes are set to begin in the second half of 2024. From the first half of 2025, production capacities will be ramped up in line with the development of the order volume.

Nordex recently announced that it was examining the resumption of production in Iowa due to tax benefits in connection with the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), a state program to combat the effects of inflation and promote renewable energies. According to the 2023 annual report, the resumption of production in Iowa is primarily due to continued demand in the USA.

"The production of nacelles in the US is an important next step in the expansion of local sourcing and manufacturing in North America," said Nordex CEO Jose Luis Blanco. At the beginning of the year, he had announced his intention to focus more on North America in order to benefit from the expected growth of the US and Canadian markets.

According to Nordex, it currently operates its own production facilities in Germany, Spain, Brazil and India as well as in Mexico as part of a cooperation agreement./zb/stk
