Nokia says it has signed a new patent cross-licensing agreement with Honor, one of the leading players in the Chinese smartphone market, covering 'both parties' core inventions in 5G and other cellular technologies'.

"This is the 4th major dispute-free smartphone agreement that Nokia has concluded in the last twelve months, and once again highlights the strength of Nokia's patent portfolio and its decades-long contributions to cellular standards and other technologies", commented Susanna Martikainen, Nokia's Director of Mobile Device Licensing.

Nokia points out that its industry-leading patent portfolio draws on more than 140 billion euros invested in R&D since 2000 with around 20,000 patent families, including more than 6,000 patent families declared essential to 5G.

The terms of the agreement between the parties were not specified.
