NextEra Energy, Inc. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and full year ended December 31, 2017. For the quarter, the company reported net income attributable to the company of $2,155 million, or $4.55 per share, compared to $966 million, or $2.06 per share, in the fourth quarter of 2016. On an adjusted basis, the company's 2016 fourth-quarter earnings were $590 million, or $1.25 per share, compared to $566 million, or $1.21 per share, in fourth quarter 2016. Operating revenues were $4,010 million against $3,699 million a year ago. Operating income was $236 million against $926 million a year ago. Income before income taxes was $86 million against $1,521 million a year ago.

For the full year 2017, the company's adjusted earnings were $3,165 million, or $6.7 per share, compared to $2,884 million, or $6.19 per share, in 2016. Net income attributable to the company was $5,378 million, or $11.38 per share, compared to $2,912 million, or $6.25 per share a year ago. Operating revenues were $17,195 million against $16,155 million a year ago. Operating income was $5,326 million against $4,608 million a year ago. Income before income taxes was $4,667 million against $4,338 million a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $6,413 million against $6,293 million a year ago. Capital expenditures of FPL were $5,174 million against $3,776 million a year ago.

Based on the tax reform benefit, which is expected to be approximately 45 cents in 2018, the company is increasing its financial expectations ranges and now expects adjusted earnings per share to be in the range of $7.45 to $7.95 for 2018. The company expects a compound annual growth rate in adjusted earnings per share to be in a range of 6% to 8% through 2021, off a revised base at the midpoint of the new 2018 range, or $7.70 per share.

In 2019, the company now expects adjusted earnings per share to be in the range of $8.00 to $8.50.

For 2020 and 2021, the company now expects adjusted earnings per share to be in the range of $8.55 to $9.05 and $9.20 to $9.75, respectively.
