Dwr Cymru Cyfyngedig, trading as Dwr Cymru Welsh Water, has appointed infrastructure and business services group Mouchel to provide wastewater hydraulic modelling services, contributing to its AMP5 Sustainable Drainage Planning framework.

Welsh Water is a regulated company that provides water supply and sewerage services to over three million people living and working in Wales and some adjoining areas of England. It has 1.2 million household customers and over 110,000 business customers making them the sixth largest of the 23 regulated water companies in England and Wales.

This is the first sustainable drainage planning framework that Welsh Water has undertaken. Mouchel will provide the following key service elements:

  • A holistic approach to drainage management;

  • Review and assessment of existing hydraulic models;

  • Construction of new hydraulic models where required;

  • Development of Sustainable Drainage Plans (SDPs), including surface water management issues; and

  • Support to Asset Capability and Developer Services departments

Steve Hogg, the framework manager at Mouchel, is excited at the opportunity to work with Welsh Water to develop full catchment strategies. He said: "This is a fantastic opportunity to further utilise the skills we have developed working with other water companies, such as Severn Trent Water. The industry is moving further forward to risk-based assessments and solutions and our delivery team will be committed to combining the best people, processes and tools to deliver Welsh Water's programme. This will lead to the development of the a suite of 'live' and dynamic SDPs which will allow Welsh Water to collect and treat wastewater in an efficient and effective manner."
