Motorola triple-play technologies will enable ABN to offer 200 TV channels, broadband and interactivity to six million households
Jan. 17, 2012
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Jan. 18, 2012 - Motorola Mobility
will provide Malaysia's Asian Broadcasting Network (ABN) the
equipment and services to launch the country's most advanced
digital cable TV network in the second quarter of 2012.
Within the next five years, the new network will give six
million households access to more than 200 channels of news,
education, entertainment, movies, sports and local
programming. Motorola's technology will enable ABN to also
support future services such as video-on-demand, social TV
and interactive gaming, alongside high-speed Internet and
voice services, establishing ABN as a true triple-play
provider.
ABN's chief executive officer and director, Sreedhar
Subramaniam, said: "Motorola Mobility's impressive track
record of supporting cable customers globally and their
ability to cover the whole network from head-end to set-top
make them a great partner. We want to bring Malaysians an
unparalleled experience that brings together television,
broadband, interactivity and more. With this partnership, we
will have both the infrastructure and content management
capabilities to make good on our commitment to deliver
triple-play services nationwide. ABN expects to capture a
significant share of the market and sign on three million new
subscribers within these five years to deliver on our vision
of providing 'Access for All'."
Commenting on the significance of this partnership, Kevin
Keefe, vice president and general manager of the Home
business for Motorola Mobility in Asia Pacific, said, "ABN's
digital cable TV network will significantly change the
dynamics of TV viewing in Malaysia by offering access to a
much greater range of viewing choices and interactive
services, opening up new video and broadband experiences for
Malaysians."
As the main technology provider, Motorola Mobility will
provide ABN the digital headend, the set-top boxes and
broadband access equipment and design services necessary to
build the advanced Hybrid Fibre-Coax (HFC) network for
triple-play services in Malaysia. The digital headend
includes the complete chain of satellite receivers, MPEG-4
encoders and storage systems. HFC combines optical fibre and
coaxial cabling as the vehicle for content to be delivered to
households. Its ability to deliver high performance broadband
services translates to a richer TV viewing experience,
combined with faster and more reliable Internet access. ABN
subscribers will also get the latest high-definition cable
set-top boxes from Motorola Mobility for a more enjoyable
home entertainment experience.
