MBIA Inc. announced that Ram Wertheim, Chief Legal Officer and Secretary, stepped down from those roles effective March 2, 2017 and will be leaving the company at the end of 2017. He has been with the company since it acquired CapMAC in 1998. His counsel, insights and contributions have been quite significant and his strong business knowledge and solid technical skills have been very valuable to the company during his tenure here. Over the past -- over the last few years, the company had already started a smooth transition, as Jonathan Harris has been preparing to assume the responsibility as General Counsel and Secretary. Jonathan joined the company in 2009 as Deputy General Counsel and Head of Litigation and immediately became engrossed in a myriad of legal actions where companies were either a plaintiff or a defendant. In addition, management succession plans will take another step in May when Doug Hamilton will step down as Controller and Chief Accounting Officer. Doug will be succeeded by Joe Schachinger, a long-time -- long-term veteran who has served as Deputy Comptroller since 2007.
