■ Focusing on customer-centered marketing by developing new European-style products and opening subsidiaries in Europe

Anyang, Aug. 9, 2017 - LS Cable & System announced that it was selected as a supplier of optical cables for what is currently the largest-ever super-high-speed communications network project in Italy.

LS Cable & System was selected as the No. 1 supplier for the second FTTH (fiber to the home) project in Italy and, accordingly, will supply optical cables to a scale of approx. $17.5 million by 2018. This is the largest amount among optical cable supply contracts won by Korean companies for oversea projects.

This project is for Open Fiber, an Italian communications service provider, which will establish a super-high-speed communications network covering around 40 cities. Open Fiber is a subsidiary of ENEL, the largest power company in Italy. Established through a split-off of ENEL's communications business division, Open Fiber is implementing government-led super-high-speed communications network projects.

LS Cable & System built initial trust by successfully completing its portion of an FTTH pilot project built-out in 2014. By winning the contract for the second project after the first one in 2016, LS Cable & System is seen as expanding its share in the Italian market.

In April, LS Cable & System established a subsidiary in France with the expectation that more investment will be made in super-high-speed communications infrastructure in Europe centering on France, Italy and Germany over the next several years.

'Our customer-centered marketing, such as to increase the ability to respond to customer requirements by establishing a subsidiary in Europe and developing new European-style products, was effective,' said Roe-hyun Myung, President and CEO of LS Cable & System. He explained, 'We expect to win additional contracts as large-scale bids are scheduled to take place in the second half of the year.'
