NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ J. Alexander's Holdings Inc. (JAX) on Tuesday reported first-quarter net income of $3.4 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

The Nashville, Tennessee-based company said it had profit of 23 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted to account for discontinued operations, were 19 cents per share.

The casual dining restaurants operator posted revenue of $57.4 million in the period.

J. Alexander's shares have risen 56% since the beginning of the year. The stock has more than tripled in the last 12 months.
