For Xamira at Rosebel, working from home is 'flexible'

'Less crowded, relaxed and, especially in my field, it's beneficial.' That's the response of Xamira van Windt, Administrative Assistant, Finance at Rosebel Gold Mines when you ask her how she has found working from home since mid-March.

'I don't feel the same pressure and just don't mind when I have to keep working,' she says. Of course, there is pressure working in the office, especially when targets have to be met by a deadline. In her own environment, that pressure becomes self-motivation. 'I set my pace and make sure that the targets are met.'

To make working from home pleasant, Xamira sticks to a few rules. For example, she works in a separate room from her husband. She informs him in advance when she needs to work, so he knows at what times she will be looking intently at her laptop screen and tapping on her keyboard as she works and connects with colleagues.

Before she starts working, Xamira prepares herself mentally. 'I do everything as if I'm going to work, except getting dressed for the office. I put on casual clothes, get a bite to eat and then begin working. You have to start the day fresh,' she explains.

Xamira also makes sure she stays in touch with her IT Department colleagues. 'Every day, we have a meeting with the department - sometimes even after working hours. And that's a good example of working from home: if I have to sum it up in one word, it's 'flexible.''
