Hyundai announced that it is planning to release its first electric vehicle (EV) in 2016. LG Chem is likely to be the battery supplier for the EV model in question until 2018. The company said that Hyundai's first EV would be a ‘mid-sized sedan' and weigh 30% less than existing hybrid EVs.

Hyundai plans to launch electric versions of sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and sports cars in the long term. SK Group's battery affiliate will supply batteries for Hyundai's electric SUVs starting from 2017.
