Denso and Hino have jointly developed an electric refrigerator system for heavy-duty trucks, using a hybrid unit. Denso has used Hino's hybrid
powertrain system technology for its electric refrigerator system technology. The new system helps improve fuel economy and refrigeration performance, and makes less noise. It contributes to a weight reduction of approximately 150 kg because it does not need an auxiliary engine. The electric refrigerator system has a stand-by unit, which can be connected to an external 200 V power source to maintain refrigerator temperature when an engine is off for a longer duration. The stand-by unit also has a timer that can pre-freeze the refrigerator room without the driver's operation, reducing fuel consumption. The new system will be used in Hino's Profia truck, which is scheduled to be launched in Japan next month.
