NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa (AP) _ Heartland Express Inc. (HTLD) on Thursday reported fourth-quarter earnings of $12.8 million.

The North Liberty, Iowa-based company said it had profit of 16 cents per share.

The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 24 cents per share.

The trucking and logistics company posted revenue of $167.2 million in the period, which also missed Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $173 million.

For the year, the company reported profit of $73 million, or 89 cents per share. Revenue was reported as $596.8 million.

Heartland Express shares have dropped slightly more than 3% since the beginning of the year. The stock has climbed 1.5% in the last 12 months.
