(Alliance News) - Assicurazioni Generali Spa announced Monday that it bought back 2.3 million of its own ordinary shares between Jan. 20 and Jan. 27.

The shares were taken over at an average unit price of EUR17.84, for a total value of EUR41.3 million.

The share buyback transaction follows the announcement of the commencement of the share buyback program to service the group's Long Term Incentive Plan to 2024 as well as the group's ongoing incentive and remuneration plans, the company explained in a note.

As of today, the blue chip holds 41.9 million treasury shares, or 2.7 percent of its share capital.

Generali's stock is down 0.1 percent at EUR17.92 per share.
