General Motors launched its next-generation infotainment software development kit. GM's NGI SDK will enable application developers to build applications that run directly on the vehicle using HTML5 and JavaScript. GM has included native application programme interfaces in the kit that allow access to nearly 400 vehicle data points. GM claims this exceeds the data offered by other automakers with similar application development programmes. Data points include elements such as instrument panel information like trip odometre and vehicle speed; drive information including how many passengers are in the car and whether windows are open or closed; radio or backup camera; and lights and indicators, such as burnt-out light bulbs or low washer fluids.
