Gazprom Neft has acquired geological-exploration licenses for three blocks in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug. These assets will form part of a major oil-production cluster bringing together the company's assets in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug and the Tomsk Oblast, creating resource potential in excess of 840 million tonnes of oil.
[Link]These new assets - the Snezhny, Ledovy and Kholodny blocks - are located in the Kondinsky district of Yugra, adjacent to fields already under development by Gazprom Neft. The licenses have been issued for a period of five years, and have been drafted under the 'flank' mechanism,* which gives existing subsoil users a priority right to secure prospecting licenses to blocks in the Unallocated Subsoil Reserve Fund within a 20-kilometre zone around fields currently under development.
The Kholodny block covers an area of 370 km2 and adjoins the Srednevayskoye field. The Ledovy block, which is a 'flank' field adjoining the Severo-Vayskoye field, is around 500 km2, and the Snezhny block, adjoining the Alexander Zhagrin field, around 490 km2.
[Link]No hydrocarbon reserves have yet been attributed to these assets, and no prospecting or drilling has yet been undertaken. Localised 2D-seismic has been completed at the blocks. An integrated zonal development concept for this oil-production cluster in the south-east of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug is currently being created in order to clarify resource potential, on which basis an exploration programme will subsequently be produced. Development of the Snezhny, Ledovy and Kholodny blocks will be undertaken by Gazpromneft-Khantos.
The Kholodny, Snezhny and Ledovy blocks form part of Gazprom Neft's new production centre in Yugra, which also includes the Zapadno-Zimny, Severo-Vaysky, Karabashsky-84 and Srednevaysky blocks (in the Kondinsky district of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra), as well as the Yuzhno-Zimny block in the Uvatsky district of the Tyumen Oblast. These blocks together cover 5,000 km2 in total, with reserves initially in place (RIIP) of more than 840 million tonnes of oil. Development of these assets will be undertaken by Gazpromneft-Khantos.
The key asset on this project is the Alexander Zhagrin field, with RIIP of 111 million tonnes of oil. One million tonnes of liquid hydrocarbons were produced at this field in its first year in operation. Peak production - of 6.5 million tonnes of oil per year - is expected to be reached by 2024.
