Fujitsu Limited announced the introduction of U-Scan(R) Quantum(TM) Checkout, a revolutionary and automated point-of-sale solution that allows for full service, self service and modified service from one solution set. Retailers can operate with all lanes open at all hours, every day. With Quantum Checkout, retailers can easily toggle back and forth from self-to-full service and back again within a single transaction, delivering an enhanced checkout experience, known as modified service.

Modified service, as defined by Fujitsu, addresses the gap in which a consumer desires to fully participate, but may need minor cashier assistance. This new design model makes it possible for retailers such as drugstores, convenience and category-specific stores to easily adopt and deploy automated checkout. Established markets such as grocery, do-it-yourself (DIY), and mass merchandise stores can also see the benefits of incorporating Quantum Checkout and recognize the significant improvement over other self-checkout options.

Built as a modular hardware and software solution, Quantum Checkout enables the retailer to configure the solution as small or as large as needed to allow for effective and efficient consumer service. Quantum Checkout also allows for custom finishes inclusive of solid surface tops and custom paint colors that can be matched to the retailer's overall decor package. Quantum Checkout was designed with the consumer in mind.

The system contains no moving or articulating parts. The consumer is never re-directed down a different path, no matter the type of service being offered at the moment, nor does the retailer need to make a predetermined decision as to the mode of service. Quantum Checkout allows for instantaneous transition when the need arises.
