FDK CORPORATION (Tokyo Stock Exchange 2nd Section: Code 6955) will extend its assembly line for High Power Cylindrical-type Primary Lithium Batteries to increase production capacity by 25%, as their demands are increasing in the meter communication market.

Our High Power Cylindrical-type Primary Lithium Batteries are mainly used in electronic meters for gas, electricity and water. Demand for lithium batteries, which is capable of high-rate current discharge, is increasing due to the recent trend toward smarter devices with increased in the communication traffic volume. Orders are expected to increase in the future, because these batteries are also used in fire and gas alarms, medical devices and in-vehicle equipment and even under the COVID-19 calamity, there is still no sign of a slowdown in demand. FDK, therefore, will install additional assembly line at our Tottori Plant, a lithium battery production plant, to increase its production capacity by 25% from April 2021.

In parallel with the assembly line extension, the points that are needed to be improved from existing assembly line were thoroughly reviewed. Besides, to respond to the sales increase with the extended assembly line, FDK will design equipment to maximize battery performance, quality and productivity, as well as building a traceability system to configure the assembly line with a view to realizing a smart factory with the introduction of IoT. A high-capacity model of High Power Cylindrical-type Primary Lithium Battery, CR17500EPK, which are newly developed in November last year, will also be produced on this state-of-the-art assembly line.
