Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE: XOM) agreed to acquire part of chemicals business, 50% stake each in Japan Butyl Co. Ltd. and Mobil Korea Lube Oil Inc. and 14.17% stake in TonenGeneral Sekiyu k.k. (TSE: 5012) from ExxonMobil Yugen Kaisha on January 29, 2012. 22% stake in TonenGeneral Sekiyu k.k. represents 80 million shares. In a related transaction, TonenGeneral Sekiyu k.k. agreed to acquire 99% stake in ExxonMobil Yugen Kaisha from ExxonMobil Asia International Limited Liability Company SARL. TonenGeneral Sekiyu has agreed to nominate two persons recommended by Exxon Mobil Corporation as director candidates. The transaction is expected to be completed before June 1, 2012.
As on May 28, 2012, Exxon Mobil acquired 2.9 million shares of TonenGeneral Sekiyu at ¥746 per share. As on May 31, 2012, Exxon Mobil acquired 80 million shares of TonenGeneral Sekiyu at ¥763.95 per share.

Exxon Mobil Corporation is an oil group organized around 3 areas of activity:
- refining and distribution (85.8% of net sales): 5.5 million barrels of oil products (diesel fuel, gasoline, fuel oil, lubricants, motor oils, etc.) sold per day in 2023;
- exploration and production of hydrocarbons (7.6%; worldwide leader): 2.4 million barrels of oil produced per day and 219.1 million m3 of natural gas produced per day;
