(Alliance News) - Eni Spa announced on Monday that it has signed an agreement with RINA, a multinational inspection, certification and engineering consultancy, with the aim of developing joint initiatives "to contribute to the process of energy transition and decarbonization of their respective activities with a particular focus on the shipping sector, in which RINA and Eni will be able to enhance each other's expertise," according to the press note.

Specifically, the agreement calls for the involvement of the two companies to develop the use in the shipping sector of HVO - Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil - biofuel produced by Eni in the Venice and Gela biorefineries and other energy carriers, such as hydrogen and blue or green ammonia from biogenic, renewable or waste feedstocks that do not compete with the food chain.

"The agreement also provides for the development of initiatives involving the entire supply chain of the new energy carriers and the adoption of certified methodologies for "taxonometric" computation of the benefits in terms of lower CO2 emissions made possible by the new carriers along the entire value chain."

Eni trades in the red by 0.2 percent at EUR13.16 per share.
