OL Groupe today announced the appointment of American businessman John Textor as CEO, succeeding Jean-Michel Aulas.

At a meeting held last Friday, the Board of Directors of Lyon soccer club appointed Textor as Chairman of the Board with immediate effect.

He has also been appointed CEO for an interim period while a new CEO is identified.

Jean-Michel Aulas, who has led Olympique Lyonnais for over three decades during which the club has won more than 50 titles, will remain honorary president.

In a press release, John Textor stresses that his priority will be to strengthen Olympique Lyonnais' place on the world footballing stage, 'in line with the highest ambitions of its illustrious history'.

With four games remaining in the season, OL currently lie seventh in the Ligue 1 Uber Eats-LFP rankings, which a priori rules them out of participation in next season's European cups.

This change of governance comes at a time when John Textor's holding company, Eagle Football, now holds 77.5% of OL Groupe's capital and 75.5% of its voting rights.

John Textor has long been the leading shareholder and executive chairman of fuboTV, a US platform specializing in the aggregation of streaming channels.
