Information on EDF's nuclear fleet
18 reactors are involved:
- 6 of them have already been granted approval to restart and are operating normally: Blayais 1, Chinon 1, Chinon 2, Dampierre 2, Dampierre 4, Saint-Laurent B1.
- 7 of them are on planned outage and have been or are being inspected: Civaux 2, Dampierre 3, Gravelines 2, Tricastin 1, Tricastin 3, Saint-Laurent B2 and Bugey 4.
- For the 5 reactors currently in operation (Tricastin 2 et 4, Fessenheim 1, Gravelines 4, et Civaux 1), Autorité de Sûreté Nucléaire (ASN - Nuclear Safety Authority) in its Decision No. 2016-DC-0572 of 18 October 2016, requested EDF to conduct controls before 18 January 2017.
Consequently, in order to conduct these controls, EDF decided the following reactor outages:
- Tricastin 4 from 22 October 2016 to 19 December 2016
- Fessenheim 1 from 10 December 2016 to 03 January 2017
- Gravelines 4 from 17 December 2016 to 10 January 2017
- Civaux 1 from 23 December 2016 to 15 January 2017
- Tricastin 2 from 23 December 2016 to 15 January 2017
Furthermore, EDF submitted to ASN on 7 October 2016 a technical report supporting the fully safe operation of all the steam generators concerned by the issue of carbon segregation.
The EDF Group today informed the electricity markets of the chosen outage periods and is providing regular information to Réseau de Transport d'Electricité (RTE), which has responsibility for balancing electrical power supply and demand and for ensuring the system's security of supply.
Considering the exceptional circumstances impacting these power plants, EDF today called upon the Minister of Economy and Finance and the Minister of the Environment, Energy and the Sea to take an order suspending the ARENH mechanism, in accordance with the provisions of article L336-3 of the Energy Code, during the first half 2017.
