DTZ Echinox appointed co-exclusive leasing agent for The Colosseum shopping centre

16 November, 2011

The Colosseum, one of the biggest shopping malls in Europe when completed, is proud to announce consultancy firms DTZ Echinox and Colliers International as its new joint leasing agents. The mall is being developed by Nova Imobiliare and located in the Chitila neighbourhood of Bucharest.

Panico Panayi, the chairman of The Colosseum developers, Nova Imobiliare comments: "We are now preparing for the second phase of our project, which is the mall. It is not going to be just another local commercial center, but a market leader such as London's Bluewater. Customers will come here to shop, to eat in quality restaurants or take a quick snack in the food-court area, to relax with their loved ones in one of the many friendly cafés or to watch the latest movies at the 12-screen cinema. Another unique characteristic of the Colosseum is its architecture and design. The mall was designed so as to allow maximum flexibility in terms of space arrangement. Thus, retailers will be able to obtain spaces of the exact size they want, which will allow them to make available their entire range of products, which does not usually happen in Romanian commercial centers."

Razvan Sin, Head of Retail Department, DTZ Echinox said: "We believe in The Colosseum project as it approached the market in a very wise and sustainable manner, by first opening two of the strongest retail anchors in the world - Carrefour and Leroy Merlin. Furthermore, the development of the ring road increases accesibility, which will significantly extend the catchment area. We are now finalising negotiations with important retailers and we will soon be able to announce new tenants."

The first phase of the Colosseum project - the retail park, was inaugurated this autumn with the opening of the first Leroy Merlin store in Romania and of the Carrefour hypermarket.

Panayi added: "We are confident that our new partnership with DTZ Echinox and Colliers International will be as successful and remain commited to bringing to Chitila flagship retailers worldwide."

In addition to the 53,000 sq m retail park, The Colosseum will comprise one of Europe's most magnificent malls, with over 137,000 sq m and 480 shops. Among the mall's highlights are a splendid marble food court, a state of the art 12-screen cinema, a 20-lane bowling alley and several elegant restaurants. The three shopping boulevards will follow the shape of a triangle: Via Milano, targeting the most popular brands, Corso Capri, satisfying the needs of fashion conscious teenagers and young people, and Bellini Boulevard, a luxury avenue dedicated to the most exclusive brands.

The construction works of the mall, which will be delivered in several phases, will start in the autumn of 2012 and will be finalised in 2016. The total investment in the Colosseum project is 350 million Euro.
