WHAT: In an effort to continue the Detroit Mounted Police division's presence throughout the city, its neighborhoods and at special events, the DTE Energy Foundation has given the Detroit Public Safety Foundation a $75,000 grant for new equipment. The DTE Energy Foundation and Detroit Police Department will unveil the equipment, a new Ford F-450 truck and double-wide horse trailer, Tuesday morning at DTE Energy's downtown Detroit headquarters. As part of the unveiling, Police Chief James E. Craig will dedicate one of the two on-site horses in honor of Sgt. Joseph Abdella who recently passed. Sgt. Joseph Abdella was a 21 year veteran of the DPD and was last assigned to the Mounted Unit. In addition to the news announcement, DTE Energy (NYSE: DTE) also will be hosting an employee charity car show event to benefit The Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW). DTE partners with the nonprofit organization to provide energy assistance for some of Michigan's most vulnerable citizens and families. In exchange for a small donation to THAW, employees will display their classic cars in the DTE Energy Peace Garden. Classic police cruisers also will be present for viewing.
