DRS Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: DRS) announced today that it was one of 24 companies selected to participate in the U.S. General Service Administration's (GSA) SATCOM (Satellite Communications) II contract. The Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract has a ceiling value of $750 million.

Under this contract the GSA will be able to select DRS to provide federal agencies with turnkey communications capabilities. Once selected, DRS will be able to lease its self-designed satellite earth station systems to provide secure military communication networks for command, control and communications initiatives, Internet access, voice telephone service, high speed data transfer, and video conferencing. DRS has established relationships with global and regional satellite organizations and terrestrial network providers to provide GSA's clients with access to these services at the most competitive rates possible.

The work will be accomplished by the company's DRS Technical Services division in Dulles, Virginia, and it will perform all network engineering, systems integration, installation, and testing required, ensuring successful communication connectivity for the GSA's clients.

The GSA serves as a centralized procurement and property management agency for the federal government. It manages more than one-fourth of the government's total procurement dollars and provides building management, technology solutions, and acquisition and purchasing services for federal agencies so they can focus on their core missions.

?Satellite communications has become a mission essential for America's government leaders in the 21st Century when they need to immediately send or receive information,? said Dr. Mitchell B. Rambler, president of the company's Technical Services Segment. ?Sometimes our leaders require immediate updates minute by minute so their situational awareness is as good as if they were deployed on scene. One of the quickest methods of accomplishing this is to communicate via satellite. We will use our decades of expertise and our infrastructure which is deployed worldwide, to provide quality and timely SATCOM solutions to the GSA and its clients.?
