SAITAMA , Japan - Clarion Co., Ltd. has announced that it will release a 2.4 GHz digital wireless camera systems for a wide range of commercial vehicles, which is a first among Japanese manufacturers of in-car information equipment. Two models, suitable for large vehicles such as trucks, buses, coaches, special vehicles, and construction/agricultural machinery, will be released first in North America and Europe, followed by Oceania and Japan.

Clarion's new wireless vehicle camera systems address the needs of the commercial vehicle market for on-board camera systems with simplified wiring and reduced installation costs. One of the 2.4 GHz camera systems features WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) technology and the other uses FH (Frequency Hopping) technology, eliminating the hassle of wiring. The cameras are also (dust-proof and) water-proof as they conform to the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standard IP67, meaning they can withstand immersion in water up to a depth of about 1 meter for 30 minutes.

The WLAN (wireless localized area network) variant, CC-3500 is a sophisticated camera with built-in transmitter and its receiver, EE-2178 , boasts the industry's shortest delay time of 90 msec for video signal transmission. The camera can be installed easily using the pairing function, which also enables simple system switching when multiple cameras are in use. The built-in transmitter has a transmission range of up to about 9 meters , long enough for small- and medium-sized trucks, forklifts, truck cranes, and agricultural machinery. Since the WLAN system is based on the same communication standards as public wireless network services, its functions can be further exploited, by using smartphone connectivity.

The EE-2179 monitoring system includes a camera with a built-in transmitter and a monitor with built-in receiver. The camera uses an FH modulation technique, that is often found in Bluetooth® systems.

This type of data exchange technology is highly resistant to interference and it enables a transmission range of up to 12 meters when mounted within a vehicle. This system is very suitable for installation on large vehicles such as articulated tucks with trailers. Video signal transmission is incredibly fast, 180 msec. - which is again the industry's shortest time among FH type systems. With both communication modules integrated, the EE-2179 enables users to easily set up a wireless vehicle camera system.

Clarion will continue to improve the wireless camera systems as an integral component for safe driving
