With the end of the lunar year fast approaching, China Airlines partnered with the Fisherman's Association of Taoyuan County today (1/19) to host a New Year Charity Banquet on the third floor of the Fisherman's Association building. Nearly 200 disadvantaged children from Muhsiang Preschool, Honghua Children's Orphanage and Zhuwei Elementary School in Taoyuan County's Dayuan Township were invited to give an early welcome to the Year of the Dragon.

The CAL Group has been actively involved in charity work, giving back to the community and helping disadvantaged groups in recent years as part of its efforts to fulfill its corporate social responsibility. After the Tohoku Earthquake in Japan in March last year, CAL helped evacuate overseas compatriots and transport disaster relief supplies. Later in the year, CAL helped the government fly home travelers trapped on Boracay in the Philippines as well. Apart from transportation, environmental protection is another issue close to CAL's heart. CAL therefore took part in the 10,000 People Tree-Planting event, the Green Forestation project and a volunteer beach clean-up at Zhuwei Fishing Harbor. To help the disadvantaged, the CAL and Red Cross Society of R.O.C. launched the Dreams Come True - Winter New Year Banquet campaign with visits to elderly people living alone and disaster victims. Other activities included the donation of LCD screens to remote schools and hospitals in Mongolia as well as helping people with facial injuries realize their dream of becoming an airline attendant.

CAL has been actively engaged in community relations since its head office moved to Taoyuan. On the eve of the Lunar New Year this year, CAL decided to give local disadvantaged children the opportunity to enjoy a reunion dinner with plans to expand the spirit of charity further afield in future years. On the day of the event, the Fisherman's Association of Taoyuan prepared steaming seafood hotpots to symbolize a traditional reunion banquet. Staff and students of Zhuwei Elementary School also presented exciting drumming, flute and dance performances, adding to the festive mood. CAL flight attendants then distributed food to each child airline style so they could enjoy the great airline food and feel as if they were aboard a plane. At the end, the organizers CAL and Fisherman's Association presented small gifts and hongbao (red envelopes) in a show of community love and charity. For nearly 200 disadvantaged children, this was an unforgettable Lunar New Year.
