WASHINGTON, May 30 (Reuters) - The head of the Federal Aviation Administration said on Thursday he does not expect the agency will quickly give Boeing the authority to boost production of the 737 MAX, saying it must address quality issues as part of the planemaker's broad plan.

Mike Whitaker met with outgoing Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun and other senior company officials for about three hours on Thursday to discuss the planemaker's comprehensive plan to address "systemic quality-control issues."

Whitaker said the FAA "will not approve the production increases until we're satisfied" and said he does not expect Boeing will win approval "in the next few months." (Reporting by David Shepardson Editing by Chris Reese)
