BMW will launch a diesel-equipped 7-Series in the US market in early 2014 after its Chicago Auto Show introduction. The engine set for US buyers is the brand's 255HP, 3.0-litre, TwinPower turbo six-cylinder unit, which will be mated to the eight-speed automatic transmission. The 740Ld xDrive will have a starting price of USD 83,425.

Standard equipment will include Driving Dynamics Control with Eco Pro. The engine is designed to comply with US ULEV II emission standards; fuel economy has not been finalized, but BMW says that other vehicles with this engine are seeing a 25-30% improvement in fuel economy, compared to their gasoline counterparts.
