BMW has announced that it will begin manufacturing its X1 model at the VDL NedCar plant in the Netherlands, which currently offers additional production for the Mini brand, according to a company statement. It is the first time that a BMW brand passenger car has been manufactured in the Netherlands. Strong global demand for the X1 means that an additional production site is required for the X1, to add to its current site in Regensburg, Germany, which is currently running at full capacity. As Regensburg manufactures eight separate model lines, it will help BMW free up capacity and reduce complexity at the plant.
