Kortrijk, 28 January 2013 - Digital cinema pioneer Barco is proud to partner with the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) for the 10th consecutive year. Since 2003, Barco has guided the film festival into the digital age, providing an ever-increasing number of Barco digital cinema projectors. This year's 63rd edition, from 7 till 17 February 2013, will see 19 Barco projectors in action, including the brand-new compact DP2K-10Sx projector, specially developed for small theaters.

Barco began its inspiring journey with the Berlinale in 2003, when the festival started preparations to go digital. The first digital screening at the Berlinale took place in 2004, using two Barco digital cinema projectors. "Barco has always been our first choice," explains Dagmar Forelle, Head of Sponsorship at the Berlinale. "When we analyzed the merits of the various equipment providers on the market, we found many positive reviews about Barco. We've never regretted our choice of Barco. Over the past ten years, the positive vibes have been confirmed, over and over again."

Same mission, same drive

"We are proud of our long-term partnership with the Berlin International Film Festival, and of successfully guiding them into the digital age," says Tim Sinnaeve, Market Director Digital Cinema at Barco. "Barco supports the Berlinale's mission of promoting film in all its variety, and strives to help inspire audiences through innovative cinema technologies such as digital projection and 3D sound."

Dagmar Forelle: "Looking back, I see ten years of wonderful cooperation, in spite of the many challenges that are typical of a film festival. A festival is so much more than just making films look good on screen. The organization is complex. Barco offers us great quality equipment and the best technical support. No doubt all these experiences also inspire them when they start working on a new product or upgrade for their projectors. It's a win-win situation."

Showcasing the DP2K-10Sx

This year, the Berlinale will première Barco's DP2K-10Sx projector on the German-Austrian-Swiss market. The DP2K-10Sx is a compact and fully integrated digital cinema projector, specially designed for smaller theaters, independent cinemas and art-houses. Ove Sander, Technical Manager Digital Cinema: "At the Berlinale we screen a lot of films in small theaters. Up until last year, about 15 to 20% couldn't shown digitally, because the digital projectors were too big to fit the projection booth. Barco's new DP2K-10Sx changes all that and lets us take a big step forward. In 2013, around 90% of the films will projected digitally at the festival."

About the Berlin International Film Festival

The most important meeting-point is the European Film Market (EFM). Around 400 companies and 8,000 professionals from 90 countries build and foster contacts here, strengthen their position in the industry or negotiate film rights.
