BAE Systems has signed a $95 million contract with the US Navy for advanced countermeasure pods to protect the P-8A Poseidon multi-mission maritime aircraft against missiles and other threats.

The pods detect and counter threats and missile launches, protecting the Poseidon and its crews.

The BAE Systems team designed, built and tested a demonstration pod, demonstrating the close collaboration between the military and industry to produce a rapid prototype.

''We are working closely with the US Navy to provide innovative solutions to protect this critical and valuable aircraft,'' said Don Davidson, Director of BAE Systems' Advanced Compact Electronic Warfare Solutions division. We quickly put in place a high-performance system using proven technology to defend against air-to-air and surface-to-air guided threats.
