BAE Systems opened a $10 million components production facility in South Australia in December 2013. The investment increases the company's international supply capability and boosts Australias advanced manufacturing capacity. From its new facility, BAE Systems will produce titanium tail fins for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) the next-generation combat jets being developed in the United States.

The recent investment is part of a collaborative agreement with the South Australian Government and BAEs Australian sub-contractor, Rosebank Engineering. The State Government and BAE Systems investment includes a purpose-built facility on the Edinburgh Parks site near Adelaide and a new machinethe Starrag BTP5000. The two-tonne machine was especially designed to cut and shape titanium up to five metres long, and to within 30 microns or half the width of a human hair, meeting the precision requirements of aerospace design.
