Arkema announces that it has acquired a stake in the start-up Tiamat, a CNRS spin-off and pioneer in sodium-ion battery technology, as part of a recent €22 million round of financing in which other investors also participated.

This investment will enable the chemical group to accelerate the development of technical solutions adapted to these lithium-free batteries, and thus free itself from lithium supply constraints.

Tiamat plans to build a 5 GWh Giga-factory in France, entirely dedicated to the production of sodium-ion battery cells. A first tranche of 0.7 GWh could be operational by the end of 2025.
