SEOUL, June 28 (Reuters) - South Korea's central bank sold a net $1.82 billion in the first quarter of 2024 to curb the won's decline, data showed on Friday.

In the prior quarter, the Bank of Korea bought $1.99 billion, after nine consecutive quarters of selling dollars.

The won weakened 4.4% against the dollar during the January-March quarter, while the U.S. dollar index, a measure of the greenback's value against six major currencies, rose 3.1%. (Reporting by Jihoon Lee; Editing by Christian Schmollinger)
