Knowing how to set personal and professional goals is critical for anyone looking to jumpstart or revitalize a career. From April 27-May 2, 2014, Harvard Business School (HBS) Executive Education will hostA New Path: Setting New Professional Directions on the HBS campus in Boston.

This innovative program is designed for women with significant professional experience who are either reentering the workforce, or are simply looking to develop a more comprehensive career vision and strategy. This program will help participants define a personal vision of success and reconnect them with the unique interests, skills, talents and motivations in order to rejuvenate personal and professional goals.

"Whether participants are looking to reenter the workforce or are just looking for a fresh start, this program will connect them with like-minded women from around the globe, in addition to the expertise and experience of our faculty," said Das Narayandas, James J. Hill Professor of Business Administration and Senior Associate Dean and Chair of Executive Education and Publishing.

During the week-long program, A New Path: Setting New Professional Directions will cover business fundamentals such as finance, marketing, negotiations, leadership, strategy and entrepreneurship, as well as life visioning and career planning.

Enhancing the curriculum will be participants' regular meetings with a Board of Advisers--an intimate group of peers and faculty coaches who offer their perspectives and insights, helping participants create personalized plans of action.

"Women at a point of career transition need to take a proactive, entrepreneurial approach to determining their next step and mapping their own futures," said Janet Kraus, faculty cochair of A New Path: Setting New Professional Directions. "Participants should be asking themselves questions such as, 'What do I want this next chapter of my life to look like? What am I ready for?'"

"Participants will have the opportunity to craft a career vision and work on the strategy that will lead to the realization of that vision." said Timothy Butler, faculty cochair of A New Path: Setting New Professional Directions. "They will also build entrepreneurial skills and have an opportunity to expand their professional networks."

As with other HBS Executive Education offerings, A New Path: Setting New Professional Directions incorporates the HBS case method in classroom discussions, team interaction in addition to individual coaching, and web-based tools.

A New Path: Setting New Professional Directions is geared for professional women who may be considering a variety of career options: from full-time to part-time to flex-time employment, and from for-profit businesses to new ventures with nonprofit organizations. Past participants have represented a wide range of countries and industries.
