Upper Hunter Shire Council : ESCAPE THE HEAT AT UPPER HUNTER SHIRE POOLS THIS WEEKEND

Swimming pools across the Upper Hunter Shire will be open extended hours this weekend with the forecast of extreme temperatures set to soar above 40 degrees.

The Upper Hunter Shire Council and Lifeguarding Australia are helping residents to escape the heat by extending the opening hours of the pools as follows:

• Merriwa Olympic Pool will be open on both Saturday and Sunday from 11.00am til 8.00pm.
• Murrurundi and District War Memorial Pool will be open on both Saturday and Sunday from 11.00am til 8.00pm.
• Scone Memorial Swimming Pool will be open on Saturday from 6.00am til 8.00pm and Sunday from 9.30am til 8.00pm.

Upper Hunter Shire Council Mayor Wayne Bedggood is encouraging all residents to be prepared for the extreme weather this weekend.

'Extreme heat can have serious impacts on people's health. Planning ahead and being prepared for extreme heat is important. It is easy to become dehydrated or for your body to overheat. Taking a refreshing dip in the local pool is a great way to keep your body temperature down.'

'Council is pleased to work with Lifeguarding Australia to provide the opportunity for resident's to escape the heat this weekend by extending the opening hours of our local pools,' Cr Bedggood said.

After this weekend the Upper Hunter Shire Council pools will revert back to normal opening hours on weekends:

• Merriwa Olympic Pool is open on both Saturday and Sunday from 1.00pm til 6.00pm.
• Murrurundi and District War Memorial Pool is open on both Saturday and Sunday from 11.00am til 7.00pm.
• Scone Memorial Swimming Pool is open on Saturday from 7.00am til 6.00pm and Sunday from 11.00am til 6.00pm.
